2 x Youth Workers – Durham County Council

2 Temporary Youth Workers to work across the County of Durham. This position is initially for a period of 6 months . The role would involve working 18.5 hours per week. The hiring manager would ideally like someone who can work each afternoon but there can be some flexibility around this.

These posts are available through the agency Nineteen Recruitment Services,and are paid at a grade 7  (£27,803 – 31,364).

The role:

  • To assist with the delivery of youth work provision within the Progression and Learning Service. The purpose of the role is to engage young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training through the delivery of personal development programmes working closely with colleagues in DurhamWorks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work closely with DurhamWorks and external partners to identify young people who are not engaging in Education, Employment or Training.
  • To actively encourage young people to participate in the support available from services to move a step closer to progressing into a positive destination.
  • To work together with DurhamWorks and partners to assess young people’s needs and plan an appropriate pathway of support including the delivery of personal development programmes.
  • To work with young people, many of whom can have multiple barriers and/or be from a priority group such as a Care Leaver or have Special Educational Needs (SEND), working on a one-one basis and planning and delivering group work sessions in the community.
  • To understand local communities across County Durham, including building strong relationships with the voluntary and community sector.
  • To build and maintain positive relationships with young people.
  • To monitor and evaluate youth work in consultation with colleagues and young people.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications: A relevant Youth Work Qualification (Level 2 Minimum).
  • Experience: 1+ year of experience within a similar role.
  • Compliance: Proof of ability to work and live in the UK. Current DBS and 2 x references.
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 18.5 hours p/w.
  • To encourage young people to actively participate in the decision-making processes of the programme.
